They said you were too much. They were wrong.

Too loud. Too quiet. Too ambitious. Too intense. Too emotional. Too analytical.
Too much.
Has someone ever told you that you're "too" something?
Maybe it was a boss in a performance review. A "concerned" colleague over lunch. An elder relative at a family dinner. It probably wasn't even a big moment. Just a casual remark, delivered lightly, with a wry smile.
Here's the LinkedIn version that my clients have heard a million times:
"Wah, you post so much on LinkedIn. Are you looking for a new job? Not enough work to do?"
Honestly, don't we all know someone like this? They make a comment with just enough plausible deniability to get under your skin. They claim it's a joke too.
But they really mean for it to land. 💥
And the worst part? It works.
We journal through it. We lose sleep over it. We start second-guessing the very things that make us effective, magnetic and memorable.
I have come to understand after years of coaching industry experts, corporate executives and senior professionals across Asia and beyond, that the things we get told we are "too much" of are almost always the things we are meant to amplify, not shrink.
Too loud? That is a voice that commands a room. Too ambitious? That is someone who refuses to accept the script others wrote for them. Too emotional? That is deep empathy, which is one of the rarest leadership qualities there is. Too analytical? That is the person in the room who actually bothers to understand the data before opening their mouth.
The problem is never the trait. The problem is that someone else's barometer has zero relevance to your career or your life.
That is exactly why I named my community Find Your Superpower. 🚀
Because too many of us spend our lives being hammered down by the expectations and words of peers, colleagues, even family. And slowly, we start dimming the very thing that makes us extraordinary.
Growing up as an Asian child, I was told to stay quiet. Don't speak unless you're absolutely certain. Keep your head down.
As a good kid, I followed that advice. Until I didn't. And it changed everything.
Your "too much" is not a flaw to fix. It is a superpower waiting to be claimed.
