Thanks to a flurry of tags on LinkedIn, I discovered this week that I was featured prominently on two industry lists: Favikon’s Top LinkedIn Influencers Singapore and LinkedIn Top Voices Singapore.

My first reaction was apprehension. I worried about the unintended consequences of being featured and wondered if it would create professional friction and scrutiny.

Lists aren’t my goal. Economic impact for my clients is. Building my Find Your Superpower community is. Creating transformation in peoples professional lives is.

That said, I also recognize that when potential clients are evaluating LinkedIn coaches, visible industry recognition can serve as a helpful credibility signal and social proof.

What does success look like anyway?

For decades, we’ve been conditioned to believe success has a specific look:

  • The mahogany desk in the corner office
  • The perfectly pressed suits and Birkins
  • The back-to-back meeting schedule

When I started coaching executives on LinkedIn, well-meaning mates were confused that I had now become a LinkedIn coach. They meant well, and I love them for caring.

But here I am, the only woman in the top 10 LinkedIn influencers in Singapore, surrounded by accomplished men. Here I am, right behind my Prime Minister, former Prime Minister, President, and Minister of State.

And guess what? I don’t even have an office.

I work in my pajamas most of the time.

I create all of my content by myself.

I play with my kids all day.

I run my VIP 12-month Brand Builder Mastermind with 200+ industry experts from my dining table.

True professional success is about impact, and we don’t need a corner office (or even an office, really) to create impact.

When we focus on creating genuine value, whether thats through thought leadership, authentic storytelling or building meaningful connections, the recognition follows naturally.

I hope more people believe me now as I have been shouting this from the mountaintop for years.

For some reason, I am reminded of a scene from the movie Gladiator, where Maximus screams, “Are you not entertained?”

My unconventional journey to LinkedIn coaching

Let me share the real story behind these lists.

I first began posting on LinkedIn in 2020 when COVID threatened to torpedo my STEM publishing company. It was a desperate move to save my business—nothing glamorous about it at all.

I was incredibly grateful when LinkedIn decided to make me an inaugural LinkedIn Top Voice for Singapore in 2020. I’ve also made many real friends from that recognition. Those were simpler times and I miss them.

Five years later, I’ve built a thriving coaching practice helping industry experts and professionals claim their expertise on LinkedIn.

Here’s what I’ve learned that most people miss: Likes and followers on LinkedIn don’t pay the bills.

My coaching philosophy is built on three principles:
🟣 Your audience is lurking and assessing you
🟣 Real influence comes from creating value, not vanity metrics
🟣 Rage bait and industry gossip won’t help you get taken seriously

I don’t believe in algorithm gaming, joining paid engagement pods, posting viral videos and triggering stories, engaging in black-hat tactics, or pay-to-play strategies.

I only care about authentic storytelling that connects the right people to your work.

The clients who pay me premium rates for LinkedIn branding and storytelling coaching dont care that I work from home.

They care that I can help position themselves as industry thought leaders, build personal brands that open doors and generate qualified leads, and attract speaking opportunities through authentic storytelling.

I help them create signature content: content that’s uniquely yours because it stems from your lived experience and professional insights.

Unlike generic business advice (which AI can now produce), signature content is:

✅ Irreplaceable: only you can tell your story, not John Doe
✅ Magnetic: it attracts your ideal clients and opportunities
✅ Profitable: it directly drives business and career outcomes
