Happy Easter!
I am excited to be hosting a free public workshop next week on April 22: AI IS MY FRIEND! How to use generative AI: a beginner 101 workshop for everyone.
It is a practical, hands-on guide to working better, faster and smarter with generative AI. 700+ people have already RSVPed, which is a lot of people.
PS: This isn’t Netflix.
There’s no “later.” No playback.
Just 60 focused minutes of actionable insights.
When I was making my presentation deck, that’s when it struck me: the AI revolution isn’t coming. It is already here.
My three predictions for the future of work
As DJ and musician Fatboy Slim famously said, “Right here, right now.” That’s exactly where we stand with AI: at an inflection point that will fundamentally reshape how we work, create and solve problems.
I believe we’re heading toward a future where:
1/ Companies will only hire when AI can’t do the job
According to the World Economic Forum’s 2025 Future of Jobs Report, as many as 41% of employers are planning on downsizing their workforce due to AI. In the US that number is even higher, with 48% of employers planning to do so.
We’ve all bristled at a leaked memo from Shopify’s CEO revealing that Shopify would hire only when AI cannot do the job, that AI usage would now be “reflexive.” He’s not the bad guy. He is merely saying what every employer is already thinking.
None of this means that humans are obsolete. Quite the opposite, really. The roles that survive (and thrive) in this new world are those that require what only humans can offer: judgment, empathy, creativity.
2/ AI literacy will become the new computer literacy
Second, AI literacy will become the new computer literacy. Not too long ago, knowing how to reboot the Wi-Fi or use Excel shortcuts made you the office tech guru. Today, that status belongs to those who can prompt an AI assistant fluently, creatively and with strategic intent. Mastery of these tools is no longer a bonus. It’s baseline expectation.
And if you already know how to work with AI assistants, then it is time to level up further: build your very own AI agent.
3/ We’ll measure productivity through human-AI collaboration
And third, we will no longer measure productivity by what a person can do alone or with other humans, but by how well they collaborate with machines to produce outcomes neither could create independently.
We are moving from human output to human-AI augmented performance.
I believe that in the future, performance reviews will routinely require employees to state how much more productive they have become thanks to human-AI collaboration. If you are only 5% more productive but ask for a 10% raise? The math doesn’t add up somewhere.
From scarcity to abundance
At its core, I believe generative AI tools herald a once-in-a-lifetime philosophical shift—from a mindset of scarcity to one of abundance.
Throughout human history, we’ve operated within tight constraints: limited time, limited energy and limited cognitive bandwidth.
We measured how much we could learn in units of Master’s and MBA degrees.
We measured productivity in units of output per hour, in units of headcount available.
Generative AI dramatically relaxes these constraints. Suddenly, the primary limitation isn’t headcount, money, time or energy—it’s our imagination and creativity.
By the way, the gatekeepers call it “prompt engineering” to intimidate you. They tell you that they alone have the perfect prompt that will give you the results you’re looking for.
They make it so awfully technical that you feel you aren’t worthy to be a part of the AI revolution. You feel like an imposter.
This is why learning to communicate effectively with AI is so critical.
At my upcoming genAI 101 workshop, I’ll be exploring beginner-level tips and use cases that will transform how you collaborate with AI: We’ll cover how to give clear instructions, why context improves results, and how to sharpen your AI output.
PS: Don’t believe the gatekeepers. It is all about clear communication, and you are already great at this.
The permission to dream bigger
For a mere US$20 a month—what you might spend on three cups of coffee at Starbucks—you now have access to tools that used to be reserved for Fortune 500 firms or data analysts with PhD degrees.
You can write, design, analyze, brainstorm, translate, code... yes, you can even code without knowing how to code.
This unprecedented democratization of knowledge and capability means that small businesses can compete with multi-national corporations, individual creators can rival production studios, and learners anywhere can access world-class education.
The financial and technical barriers have fallen.
Anyone can create. Anyone can analyze and do deep research.
