How to 10x your content with generative AI (the ethical way)

The content creator vs generative AI
The rise of generative AI (genAI) has sparked both excitement and fear among content creators everywhere.
Critics argue that genAI is just sophisticated plagiarism, regurgitating intellectual property and repurposing the work of artists without credit or compensation.
This is definitely happening on a large scale.
PS: Has anyone tried to “Ghiblify” their image recently? Congratulations, you’re part of the problem.
But you don’t have to join them.
In my conversations with content creators and from personal experience, I’ve noticed that most content creators go through three stages when integrating genAI into their workflow.
I call this the three stages of AI adoption for content creators:
1/ The resistance stage: I’ll never use AI. My content is 100% human-created.
Many content creators worry that using AI diminishes their expertise or creativity. They see it as “cheating” rather than leveraging a new tool. Trust me, I’ve been there. I struggle too. For the record, I still prefer, and will always prefer, to create original content.
2/ The overreliance stage: AI can do everything for me. I’ll just prompt and publish!
They discover the power of AI and go overboard, letting it generate entire LinkedIn posts or marketing campaigns with minimal human oversight. The result? Generic, soulless content. I feel sad when naturally gifted writers stop writing original content. It’s gotten so bad that even their comments are AI-generated.
3/ The integration stage: AI helps me work smarter, but I won’t lose my unique voice.
This is where the magic happens. They realize that there is a middle ground: they begin to use AI for background research, ideation and overcoming creative blocks, but let their unique voice, expertise and human perspective guide the process. The final product is unmistakably theirs, just created more efficiently and with the help of a sparring partner.
How to 10x your content ethically with AI: a case study
Let me share with you a case study on how I would advise my client Maxine to 10x her content with the help of large language model (LLM) tools like ChatGPT and Claude.
Context: Maxine has just appeared on a radio show talking about her new leadership coaching business.
Here’s how she can leverage that single appearance into 10 hours of content:
- As Maxine is well trained by me, she brings along a tripod stand to record herself on her mobile phone during the interview (with the radio host’s approval).
- Once she returns home, she uploads that video recording into a free or affordable transcription software and saves the transcript of her hour-long interview.
- CONTENT STRATEGY: She uploads that transcript into an LLM like ChatGPT or Claude and prompts it to: “Create a content distribution plan for my radio appearance on 3 platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, email). Suggest repurposing formats and create a checklist.”
- LINKEDIN POSTS: With her content distribution plan in hand, she can now go deeper. She uploads the transcript again, and prompts the LLM to convert the content into 10 LinkedIn posts. She edits the posts and finds a suitable photo for each post.
- INSTAGRAM REELS: She now prompts the LLM to condense her material into 10 scripts for short, 30-45s video reels. She re-records the scripts using her mobile phone and edits them using online software to add captions and titles to her reels.
- EMAIL NEWSLETTERS: She now asks the LLM to identify suitable topics from the transcript for her weekly newsletter. She picks topics that resonate and prompts the LLM to write newsletters in her voice (for formatting, voice and length, she uploads 10-20 past newsletters as additional reference).
- PUBLIC SPEAKING: Next, she learns how to give better interviews by prompting: “Based on my transcript, point out places where I stumbled and tripped over my words, said Uhm too many times, and where my reasoning and arguments could be improved.”
- LEAD MAGNETS: She even makes a bunch of lead magnets from that transcript by prompting: “Convert my transcript into 10 tips or 10 Q&As” and packages the output into swipe files to grow her mailing list.
- THANK YOU EMAIL: She asks the LLM to help her write an email thanking the radio host for inviting her onto the show, highlighting three topics she enjoyed discussing (which also provides feedback to the radio host).
- I COULD KEEP GOING ON: The possibilities are endless. If Maxine runs out of ideas, guess who she could ask for more ideas? No prizes for guessing!
Do you see how all of this is more ethical? The source of the LLM’s learning is Maxine’s original content, original ideas and original voice.
This approach is immensely more ethical than saying “write an article on leadership” or “give me 10 tips on how to be a better leader” which pulls from everyone else’s content.
The key to ethical prompting: train the AI on YOUR content, not others.
I teach all this. You CAN learn all this.
